Conflicts of interest are a recipe for “burnout” or “compassion fatigue” in medicine. Many patients and physicians might not immediately respond to the “why did you go the DPC route” question by stating that their goal was to minimize conflicts of interest, but I would argue that this is the most common explanation for the growth of the model across the United States.
